I'm the type of mom who likes to stay inside all the time and given that I have to climb quite a number of stairs up and down just for the sake of an outing with my son doesnt help at all. So one day out of desperation to let him enjoy the outside fun at home abit, I decided to make him a swing. He has never sat on a baby swing to this day (he's 13 months old now) so it has always been quite saddening for me to feel that he's missing out on the fun that other babies his age might be having. So many reasons to go for it and so I did.
We had his leftover walker at home and all I did was unscrew the seating area off the bottom and use that same screwdriver to make holes on the sides where necessary. Making holes were easy because all I did was heat up the screwdriver's tip while holding the insulated area and then press the tip onto the places where I want holes to be drilled out. The plastic just melted into a perfect hole, just enough for me to put through ropes in.
I put the ropes in and out from one hole to the next and adjusted the height of the rope so that the seat would be held up high at a specific height and tied the last end of the rope underneath the seat. Afterwards I used hot glue to fill up the holes so that the ropes would have difficulty in budging from their position. i also put hot glue on the knot I made to make the knot stronger. If you want you may cut the rope and just put them through the holes and leave a knot at the underside of the seat but I felt that leaving the rope as it was might just help distribute the weight evenly and also provide flexibility if I wanted to alter the swing later on.
Once the glue had dried up I tied it on top of my bed room door after opening it (there's a small window on top of the bedroom door so I tied the end of the rope on it and put my baby into it) My son was with me the whole time and it took only about 40 mins to make from 0. He loved it and it made me feel accomplished as a mom because now I wouldn't have to live with the regret that he hasn't been able to use a baby swing in his baby years. 😂
Oh, and don't forget to put a folded blanket on the seating area so that your baby won't hurt this thighs from the fabric of the seat pressing against the skin. Hope this helps someone like me out there. Do share with me your reviews in the comments section below.
